About

It’s a crazy world we live in.

I have long taken an interest in the problems that creates and the need to move beyond the thinking that has led to them. We need a New Renaissance of the human spirit.

My wife tired of my rants on ‘I can’t believe it’, and suggested I write a blog. Here it is.

I also love taking photographs of the natural world, particularly of birds, so there are lots of those here.

Personal Stuff

The Family page contains items of interest about my family, but beware that a lot of the stuff is password protected. You’ll need to contact me to gain access to these.

The personal page lists blog items of a more personal nature.

In the vanity of my younger days I once wrote my ‘Conceptus’, explaining concepts I thought it important for us to understand (i.e. what was important for me to understand). In memory of this, I have thus tagged relevant posts, which are listed on the conceptus page. They are of course a work in progress, as indeed is the whole site.

  1. If only I could give a brief answer to that excellent question!

What is a New Renaissance? Perhaps a time when humanity raises its level of consciousness above the current ego-dominated morass that has forgotten how to live in harmony with itself and the earth. Of course, this would see an explosion of creativity, as was apparent with the original 15C Renaissance.

What brings this about? It is the efforts of each and every one of us to raise our own level of consciousness to live in harmony with others and the earth.

I think there will come a ‘critical mass’ when it is all not as difficult as has been apparent since the 1980s – now that the problems caused by this are increasingly apparent in the effects of global warming and a failing economic/political system.

  2. I like the idea of mankind “living in harmony with itself” on this beautiful earth. ‘Tis a challenge, isn’t it? Makes me think of the challenge posed by poet W. H. Auden re the parallel individual conflict, “We wage the war we are.” Thanks for following my blog.

    • Hi Alessandra, I presume you mean ‘translate into Italian’. Sorry I do not know who owns the copyright. It would be simplest to contact the book publisher and ask them. Best wishes…

  3. Hi Barryh, thank you for correcting me: fortunately my english grammar mistakes are not a problem since I’ll write in Italian…nor in English 🙂 I wrote you because I counldn’t find any email contact of Gaia Books…(editor of the book I’m interesting in) and I imagined that you should have already asked to the editors the copyright to publish Skolimowski’s extracts. Thank you
