These fulvous whistling ducks were at Martin Mere Wildlife and Wetland Trust Reserve in Lancashire. They are not normally seen wild in UK, being common across the world’s tropical areas.

The word fulvous relates to the orange-ish/brownish/yellowish/tawny colour of these and similar birds.

I’m more familiar with the rather more slender black bellied whistling ducks we see in Houston.
So how do you suppose those ducks are enjoying their stay in the non-tropical UK?! 😏

Good question, Jane. You might think they’d feel a little chilly. I guess if they had a choice they’d maybe fly off to warmer climes…
