There were quite a few pintails, with those characteristic pointed tails, enjoying the afternoon sun and supplied food at WWT Martin Mere. Also known as the northern pintail.

The male’s breeding plumage would be a darker chocolate brown. The two females in the lower picture are much more anonymous than the splendid males.
