I recently saw this rather large bracket fungus, around 15 inches diameter, high up in a sycamore tree at Abbeycwmhir in mid Wales.

It has the unmemorable name of polyporus squamosus, and it seems it is actually an edible mushroom with a mild nutty flavour.
