I couldn’t resist photographing this pair of mandarin ducks, hunkered down against a sharp cold wind at WWT Martin Mere, Lancashire.
According to the RSPB, these birds are now reasonably well established in the UK, having been introduced from China, where they have a reputation for lifelong fidelity. The male mandarin is a really spectacular bird.
